KINDER GYM

Icon Gymsports nurtures little ones with a memorable and engaging introduction to gym sports, offering a real gymnastics pathway for those who wish to advance with the sport. Kinder Gym is a Gymnastics Australia program that enhances child development and school-readiness through a movement-based learning experience. In safe equipment set ups and exploration, little gymnasts will explore the early foundations of gymnastics movement and skill whilst building the necessary strength and flexibility. These fun and structured classes provide endless benefits to young children’s physical, social and cognitive development.

We have an unstructured β€˜Open Kinder Gym’ session available for ages 0-5years (refer to information at bottom of page) and structured Kinder Gym classes open to ages 3 years+.

JUMPING JOEYS

3-4 years old (2 years before school)

This program caters for boys and girls from 3-4 years old who need a challenge. Perhaps they have tried a Kinder Gym program before and need a bit more structure! Children participate in a group warm-up and stretching, followed by the use of a wide variety of equipment in large circuits (small ratios of a maximum of 7 students to 1 coach). Parents are required to be present in the gym during the class, however are not required to participate.

The class is designed to be fun for little ones, whilst teaching basic movement patterns that will benefit future sports and activities. This confidence-building class is the perfect stepping stone before Kindy Puppies (4 to 5 year olds).

Current Classes

  • Monday 9:30am – 10:30am
  • Saturday 8:00am – 9:00am
  • Saturday 9:15am – 10:15am

KINDY PUPPIES

4-5 years old (the year before school)Β

The Kinder Puppies program caters for boys and girls aged 4-5 years old in a challenging yet non-threatening environment. Groups are small (maximum 7 children per coach). The class aims to encourage children to discover their own abilities in a supportive and exciting environment. Being part of a group, children learn to interact socially as well as develop their athletic skills and physical strength. These classes are a stepping-stone from the Jumping Joeys to the Recreational Bronze program (school aged beginner gymnastics).

A wide variety of equipment is used in circuits to allow children to explore basic movements in running, jumping, landing, hanging, swinging, balancing, turning, rolling and supporting their weight on various body parts.

The curriculum has been devised to enable your child to progressively develop basic movement patterns, so that good body tension and spatial awareness is promoted, and within each lesson there is scope for extension and creative activity.
